How To Get Rich By Writing Books On How To Get Rich
Given that I'm doing the whole blogging thing now, I figured I would investigate ways to make a dollar or two from it. So I downloaded an e-book on how to make money using Adsense. For those of you who don't know, Adsense is Google's advertising model and allows just about anyone with a website to start posting ads.
I flipped through the book but couldn't bear to read the entire thing, it was complete and utter rubbish. The first three chapters were spent telling how this complete novice to the Internet went from making pennies a day on his site to $500 a day in three months time.
The secret to his success? Purchasing pre-made site templates and targeting unfilled Internet niches with these sites, sites which didn't amount to anything more than a couple graphics, some text, and a slew of ads. And surprise surprise, the book had links to where you could buy both lists of niche markets that were prime for exploiting and also readymade templates.
I suppose this way could be successful, much in the way owning domains like gooogle.com or yhaoo.com could net you money. But neither are honest and neither are going to be sites you'll ever be proud of. The real way this person was making money though was by selling people his book to gullible people which promoted subscription based sites he no doubt either owned or was affiliated with.
This all makes me think of L. Ron Hubbard. In an interview once, Hubbard said something along the lines of “If you want to be rich, start a religion”. Much in this same way, if you want to get rich on the Internet, write a book on how to get rich on the Internet.
