My First XNA Gameplay Footage
I absolutely love some of the old 2D side-scrolling games; stuff like Super Mario Brothers, Contra, Sonic the Hedgehog, Megaman, etc. So it was only natural that when I started to create a game, I created a 2D side-scroller.
The concept of my game is pretty simple... you kill all the enemies on one level and then you get to progress to the next level. You continue doing this until all levels are cleared, the world is a better, safer place, and you win the game. Your character can run, jump, and shoot to accomplish these deeds. And while I'm going to call it a side-scroller, in reality there is no scrolling.
I used a tool call GameCam to create this footage. GameCam easily allows you to capture real-time video of your game (though the trial version puts an ugly watermark on the footage). There is sound in my game, but the default audio capture device for GameCam didn't seem to pick it up. There are more options to change this if I had a registered copy of the software too.
It's rather shocking to me how badly YouTube degraded the quality of my videos. They were much, much clearer on my computer. The video posted below has a sort of ghosting effect behind any moving objects.
This game is still very, very early in development (the artwork especially). I just wanted to give you all an idea of what I've been working on lately. So marvel at my video below and let me know what you think.
